Fencing KZN is alive and experiencing a re-growth in our province. We are pleased to see a groundswell of new talent emerging, and it is wonderful to see some of of the older stalwarts of yesteryear back at competitions and helping the new fencers to improve. Clubs

There are currently 4 fencing clubs in KwaZulu-Natal. The University of KwaZulu-Natal club is based at the Old Mutual Sports Hall in Francois Rd, Durban and has a rich history in the sport. The second club is based in Hillcrest, and was established in mid 2013. Durban North Fencing Club opened its doors in April 2015, and Maestro Fencing also opened during 2015. Fencing is an exhilarating sport suitable for men and women. Fencers in KZN currently range in age from pre-teens to 70+. There are 3 weapons used in fencing, namely epee, foil and sabre. The preferred learning weapon in KZN is the epee as this provides a solid footwork base, rules are simpler, and cost of equipment is cheaper.
