Fencing KZN Takes Fencing to Umhlanga
What happened when fencing came to Umhlanga? Curiosity quickly turned into excitement!
At the Reddam House Umhlanga Carnival, hundreds of children — along with a few brave parents — had the opportunity to pick up a fencing sword and experience the Olympic sport for the very first time.
From their first touches to friendly duels, the excitement was clear. Children tested their reflexes, challenged their friends and discovered a sport that was fast, strategic and completely different from anything they had tried before.
The event highlighted exactly why fencing is such an exciting sport for young people. It develops confidence, discipline, focus, coordination and fitness, while giving children the opportunity to challenge themselves and have fun.

Most importantly, the day demonstrated the potential for fencing to reach new communities across Durban's North Coast. With growing interest in the Umhlanga area, Fencing KZN is exploring opportunities to establish and expand fencing programmes at schools and community venues in the region.
