In 2026, Fencing KZN continued its commitment to growing the sport by taking fencing beyond traditional fencing environments and introducing it to new audiences, schools and communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
Our outreach programme was built around a simple belief: if we want fencing to grow, we need to take the sport to the people.

Taking fencing where it hasn't been before
Throughout the year, Fencing KZN actively sought opportunities to demonstrate fencing in places where many children had never encountered the sport before — from shopping centres and school carnivals to community schools and other sporting events.
January 2026 Westown Square, ShongweniOur 2026 outreach journey began at Westown Square, where members of the public watched fencing demonstrations and experienced the sport for themselves.

Outreach isn't awareness. It's opportunity.
Every demonstration can be the first step towards a new fencer. Every school visit can open the door to a new programme. And every community activation can create a pathway for children who may never otherwise have had the opportunity to discover fencing.
The Arena Park Secondary project demonstrated this philosophy in action: a fencing demonstration became a fencing club, creating a lasting presence for the sport within the community — and our commitment to making fencing accessible to communities that have historically had limited access to the sport.

Fencing KZN believes that fencing should be accessible to more young people across the province, regardless of whether they live in an established fencing community.
